Investigations into inappropriate behaviour

In recent years we have seen an increase in reports of inappropriate behaviour in the workplace, such as (sexual) intimidation, bullying and discrimination.

We conduct our investigations in phases. We start our investigation with a conversation (or interview) with the party which filed the complaint; this allows the party to shed light on his or her story as quickly as possible, so that the investigation can be focused on topics that really matter.

During these investigations, we always keep the interests of the person against whom the report is directed (the accused) in mind. This is of great importance, partly in view of the many examples in which people's reputations have been damaged in advance by publications in the media ('guilt by investigation' or 'trial by media').

'Gewenst omgaan met ongewenst gedrag'

Inappropriate behaviour has always existed but is receiving increased attention. Organisations are therefore increasingly expected to prevent inappropriate behaviour and, if it does occur, to act appropriately. To give organisations more insight into what is involved in investigations into inappropriate behaviour, we have published the publication ‘Gewenst omgaan met ongewenst gedrag’. It is a publication with practical advice.
